Volunteer
Would you like to become more involved at the Museum? You don’t have to be an expert on art to become a valued member of the MONA team. The Museum relies on the dedication and commitment of volunteers to help sustain MONA in many ways. If you want to contribute your time, energy, and skills to create a place where people can be touched by art, MONA offers a range of volunteer opportunities for which we will train you.
Docent Training Program
MONA volunteer docents lead tours of the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions to K-12 student and adult groups. They receive training on how to facilitate a tour, and learn about art and MONA’s collection. Candidates should enjoy interacting with groups of all ages and must have time available during the week to give tours. Docents are expected to make a two-year commitment, give a minimum of eight tours per year, and attend all monthly meetings and training sessions.
Please complete the MONA Volunteer App Form, and write a brief letter of interest to:
Director of Learning and Engagement, Christine Brown lockhart-brownc@nullunk.edu
Your letter of interest should explain why you would like to be a MONA docent as well as your interest in art, any teaching experience, and any other relevant skills (e.g., bilingual abilities).
MONA Guild
The MONA Guild supports and promotes the Museum of Nebraska Art through educational programming, fund raising, social events, and promoting public awareness, and is a vital part of the Museum’s success. Call MONA (308) 865-8559 to find out how to become involved with the MONA Guild.
Anne Thorne Weaver Museum Shop Volunteers
Anne Thorne Weaver Museum Shop volunteers provide many services to visitors, assisting with the selection and purchase of merchandise, as well as maintain its appearance. The Weaver Museum Shop is open during public hours, with shifts typically lasting 3 hours. Call MONA (308) 865-8559 to learn more about becoming a Weaver Museum Shop Volunteer.
Monday Morning Library Group
A group of volunteers comes together every Monday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 to review library materials: books, periodicals, catalogues, clippings, and the like. They catalog the books and put other materials in vertical files or on the library shelves. They also conduct research on materials with ties to Nebraska. Items not related to Nebraska art or general American art are provided to rural schools through the MONA Library Loan program. Call MONA (308) 865-8559 to learn more about becoming involved with the Monday Morning Library Group.
