Based on an examination of historical ceramics produced on the Italian peninsula, Associate Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, artist Margaret Bohls shares her abiding interest in historical vessel forms and their social context. While both visual and sculptural, the vessels were conceived with a particular set of formal goals in mind. The unrefined and thickly glazed works carry a visual texture, emphasizing their weight and physical presence. While based on culture and a specific period in time, Bohls’ use of abstraction and repetition and their visual motifs, create a modern-day “still life” like arrangement.
