Luther Jones was born on October 16, 1944 in Poplar Bluffs, Missouri. He received his BFA from the University of Omaha in 1968 and attended the Minnetonka Art Center in Minnetonka, Minnesota in 1979. Around 1974, Jones was working with metal by using an oxyacentylene torch to create figurative subject matter composed of brass, bronze, and steel. He has recently been experimenting with the application of torn strips of fabric to an armature of wire. Jones likes to work in a variety of styles and mediums, but feels his ink blot paintings are his most original works. Jones wants to create art that pays tribute to the African people throughout the African Diaspora.
