David Amland, artist, teacher, amateur historian, and naturalist, was born in Iowa City, Iowa in 1931. He grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955. He received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1959. He taught for several years at Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University) in Fremont, Nebraska before relocating to Carmel, California. There he was active in the local art community until he moved to north Texas in 2003. The artist passed away in Dallas in 2010.
