Becoming Nebraskan: In Search of an Identity with Will Stoutamire

What makes someone a Nebraskan? The answer to this seemingly simple question is more complicated than it might appear. How we define being a Nebraskan has changed over time. It is a reflection of a changing understanding of ourselves, our values, and of this place many of us call home. Join UNK Associate Professor of History, Dr. William F. Stoutamire, for a tour of MONA’s new permanent exhibit, as we work towards a deeper understanding of how we have historically defined being Nebraskan and consider how those shifting definitions are reflected in MONA’s collections.

Dr. William F. Stoutamire is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), where he directs the undergraduate minor in public history and the online Public History MA program. Prior to joining the faculty at UNK, he served for five years as director of UNK’s G.W. Frank Museum of History and Culture.

Sponsored by The Terra Foundation for American Art, established in 1978 and with offices in Chicago and Paris, the foundation supports organizations and individuals locally and globally through its grant program, collection, and initiatives. Its aim is to foster intercultural dialogues and encourage transformative practices that expand narratives of American art.
