Nebraska Travels

Exhibition open December 15, 2009 through March 15, 2009

December 15, 2009 – March 15, 2010 —

From South America, Europe, and Asia to this country, artists have found inspiration in the sights, sounds, people, and places of the world. In Nebraska Travels, the drawings, photographs, paintings, and prints exhibited are directly created from such experiences. While the works speak to the deeper insight that can be discovered when changing locale, they are also tied together by the artist’s Nebraska connection.

All artists represented in Nebraska Travels were born and raised in Nebraska or lived in Nebraska at some point in their lives – in most cases, a considerable time. Their travels range from one week excursions to traversing the world for a lifetime. The artwork inspired by travel varies from Sheila Hicks’s abstracted versions of her impressions of a place to realist reproductions (with artistic license) of a location such as Charles Rain’s Rhodian Idyll depicting ruins on the Grecian island of Rhodes.
