Brian Corr: Of Light and Shadow
Installation of Brian Corr, "One," at the Australian National University in 2007.
Brian Corr (b. 1976, Denver, Colorado) creates large-scale installations and sculptures harnessing light and shadow as physical and metaphysical elements. Using glass as his medium, his works facilitate contemplative experiences by emphasizing stillness, presence, and awareness, often drawing on principles of Japanese architecture and meditation practices.
Originally from Colorado, Corr moved to Nebraska to attend Hastings College, where he studied glassblowing. After graduating, he worked across the United States and internationally, most notably in Australia and Japan, before returning to Hastings College as an Associate Professor in 2020. These experiences profoundly impacted Corr’s work aesthetically and conceptually.
His first solo museum show, this exhibition surveys artwork spanning nearly twenty years. Across this body of work, Corr seeks transformative moments in the process of making and for viewers. In a time of immense distraction, Corr offers us a refuge, transforming the gallery into a moment for stillness and reflection.
