Nebraska: Flatwater
The name Nebraska derives from the Indigenous word Ñí Brásge (nee-BRATHE-ga), meaning “flat water.” With nearly 80,000 miles of rivers surrounded by plains and sandhills, Nebraska has a unique and ever-changing landscape.
Nebraska: Flatwater is an immersive video installation produced by Gallery 1516 exploring this natural beauty. Beginning in 2020, a team of cinematographers, led by Adam Larsen, was assembled to capture footage of Nebraska throughout the four seasons. Over a period of two years, they traveled across the state documenting changing weather, landscapes, and wildlife. The resulting project surrounds viewers with scenes of the vibrant landscape, accompanied by music and writings by Nebraska artists and cultural leaders, past and present.
