Embrace your artistic side with Rowe Sanctuary and the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA)! Join us for a study in the junction between art and nature in a variety of media with wonderful guest instructors.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Platte River during crane season with this plein air watercolor painting experience. Capture the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife in the open air, or, if weather conditions are unfavorable, enjoy painting indoors with stunning views from the Rowe Visitor Center. Plein air painting is the act of painting outdoors, with the French term meaning “in the open air”. It is a practice where artists paint directly from their subject in natural light, rather than from a studio reference. This method emphasizes capturing the immediate and changing effects of natural light and atmosphere on a scene.
About the Artist:
Dr. David Wiebe is a retired orthopedic surgeon and a watercolor artist based in Kearney, Nebraska. He is known for his transparent watercolor paintings and has written a memoir about his life as a surgeon and traveler.
