Artist Biography
Born in Imperial, Nebraska, Paul Adkinson is a self-taught artist whose journey began through reading books, experimentation, and attending workshops led by nationally recognized artists whenever possible. His artistic foundation took root in these diverse influences, shaping the trajectory of his creative path.
Adkinson’s artistic range encompasses paintings, collages, and photographs. His creative process thrives on imagination, prompted by observations, readings, or conversations. This imaginative spark becomes evident in his work, inviting viewers to experience a range of emotions and reminisce about past events and joyous moments. Adkinson hopes that viewers can “experience the sense of imagination, beauty, wonder, and feeling that went into the creative process of the artwork, no matter the medium or the subject.”
Adkinson’s work has garnered recognition at various exhibitions and shows, including the American Art Association Regional Invitational Exhibit in Denver, the Governor’s Mansion in Lincoln, and the Art and Gift Gallery in North Platte, Nebraska. His accolades include awards such as the Grand Champion in Photography and Grand Champion in Art at the Cheyenne County Fair in 2007; the Audrey Towater Award for Color Photography at the West Nebraska Arts Center’s 2007 Competition in Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and the Best of Show at the People’s Choice Award at the Carbon County Arts Guild Spring Show in Red Lodge, Montana. In 2009 his painting Winter’s End was selected for the Association of Nebraska Arts Club (ANAC) Purchase Award and acquired by the Museum of Nebraska Art. As a member of the Box Butte Art Club in Alliance, Nebraska, he has received numerous Honorable Mentions at the annual ANAC conference exhibitions.
