Artist Biography
A painter with an artistic eye on her Nebraska Sandhills upbringing, Nadine McHenry taught art at Kearney State College, Nebraska Wesleyan, and in the Lincoln Public Schools system. Although her art career was interrupted by an 18-year stint working in marketing and advertising, her artistic vision and impact earned her the 2002 Mayor's Arts Award for Artistic Achievement.
One of the hallmarks of McHenry’s work was her use of large, expressive brushwork even when working with traditional subject matter such as landscape or cows. In the painting Meadowlark, this expressive painterly energy adds an element of drama and relevance to what might otherwise be an ordinary depiction of Nebraska's state bird.
