Artist Biography
Challenging traditional quilting and needleworking, Molly Anderson conceived of a new technique in the late 90s using hexagons of fabric and piecing them together in patterns resembling paintings. Though many people reacted favorably to her unconventional style, her submission to the National Quilting Association in 2000 was rejected because of its unusual shape and design; instead, the Association encouraged her to re-submit with a more traditional rectangular shape. In response, Anderson refused to make another rectangular quilt for over a year and focused on developing her unique vision.
Her ingenuity was recognized in 2001 when she was included in an invitational exhibition at the Museum of Nebraska Art. Since that time, Anderson has dedicated her artistic career to pushing the limits of her medium and highlighting others who do as well.
