Artist Biography

Imogene See was the daughter of Joseph W. and Hulda See, descendants of Dutch immigrants who settled in the Hudson River Valley in the 1600s. She spent most of her life living in Port Chester, New York near her birthplace. While conflicting evidence exists about See’s connectivity to Nebraska, it is believed she created her Nebraska homestead paintings during or after a trip westward. Only a handful of the paintings exist, all dated to 1885. See painted other landscapes but her career was most likely a personal pursuit as Federal Census records or city directories do not list her occupation as an artist.
