Help Support MONA’s Expansion
The Critical Need
MONA’s home since 1986 is the iconic 1911 United States Post Office in Kearney. The Nebraska Legislature recognized our fledgling collection as the official visual arts collection of the state, and the post office was acquired and renovated. The decades since have seen tremendous growth and success. During MONA’s 45-year history, the initial collection of 30 artworks has expanded to more than 5,000 pieces and counting. By 2015, we realized we had outgrown our available space and that expanding and renovating the Museum would be key to continue to fulfill our mission.
Construction on the expansion began in 2022. On May 3, 2025, MONA reopened the newly expanded and restored Museum to the public. The new MONA features:
- Expanded gallery space for rotating exhibitions and displays from MONA’s permanent collection.
- An expanded state-of-the-art collections storage space that includes a section of “visible art storage” allowing visitors to see how the art in the collection is stored when not on display.
- A new Community Studio that enables us to offer a wider variety of programs to more people.
- A complete restoration of the historic 1911 Post Office building.
- Improved accessibility and technology.
Although the Museum is open and construction is completed, we need your support to finish the capital campaign. Please click on the link below to make a donation to the capital campaign.
