Artist Biography
Olga Štěpánek was an untrained award-winning artist, a stylish woman with a contemporary vibe. She was in her fifties when she began to indulge in a passion for making art. Olga had an astute way of seeing the striking potential of scraps. Old bits of metal, discarded tin cans, and deconstructed engines, were collectively metamorphized into collages and sculptures, each with a confident and charming appeal. This appliqued quilt is composed of second-hand clothes, cut and sewn to reflect her interest in modern artists like Pablo Picasso. Multiple squares with contrasting designs, are cleverly combined into a symphony of bold vivid colors.
