Artist Biography
After earning his BFA from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Day began his professional career in publishing and commercial graphic design work while also maintaining the creating and exhibiting of sculpture and ceramics. He was instrumental in establishing the Sidney Fine Arts Center in Sidney, Nebraska, and began teaching workshops there. In 2013 he completed an MFA from Fort Hays State University and accepted a teaching position at the Great Plains Art Institute at Sinte Gleska University on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, where he remains today.
Day's work often combines playful elements or additions with traditional forms such as plates and vases. Untitled (vase) is an example of his unexpected approach with its slight bend in the neck of this vessel, giving it an almost human-like quality and movement.
